Château Capbern St-Estèphe 2015
Region: Saint-Estèphe - Bordeaux Left Bank
Varieties: 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot
Château Capbern is one of the best kept secrets of Saint-Estèphe. It is the sister property of Château Calon-Ségur and had been owned by the Gasqueton family from 1894 until it was sold in 2012. It is an excellent example of a Cru Bourgeois that outperforms its classification. The 41Ha property is located to the east of Calon-Ségur near the village of Saint-Estèphe, overlooking the Gironde on gravel, limestone and clay soils.
Saint-Estèphe is one of the northernmost village on the Left Bank. The water-retaining, clay soils underneath the layer of gravel allow the vines to perform during hot and dry years, perfectly suiting Cabernet Sauvignon grapes.
This 2015 has a fruit-driven bouquet edged with notes of graphite and dark cherry fruit. Aged in 60% new oak for 18 months, it is full-bodied with polished tannins balanced by plush black fruit.
