Dry River Pinot Noir 2014
Region: Martinborough - Wairarapa - New Zealand
Variety: Pinot Noir
Dry River needs no introduction as the iconic producer from the Martinborough region in the southern tip on of NZ’s North Island. Former winemaker and owner Neil McCallum was a local pioneer, when a planted the vineyard in 1979 with a great vision. McCallum retired in 2011 and the winemaking duties were handed over to Wilco Lam with Robert Willis. Extremely low yields, non irrigated vines, innovative vineyard techniques (such as the use of reflective foil to optimize the grapes’ exposure to sunlight) and a desire to make long-lived wines have earned Dry River a reputation for being one of New Zealand’s leading premium-wine producers.
The sub-region of ‘Martinborugh’ in Wairarapa wine region is characterised by the deep river gravels of the ‘Martinborough Terrace’ and the Te Muna Valley, ideal conditions for Pinot Noir.
