Coriole "Lloyd" Reserve Shiraz 2016
Region: McLaren Vale
The owners of Coriole, the Lloyd family, founded the wine estate in 1967 in McLaren Vale. The third generation is now at the helm, managing it all from viticulture, winemaking to sales and marketing.
The McLaren Vale wine region has a long history of winemaking with vines first planted in the region in 1838. The region was made famous for its Shiraz which is densely coloured, typically rich and soft, it benefits from the Mediterranean climate, which is moderated by the Gulf St Vincent to the west and Mt Lofty Ranges to the south.
This Lloyd Reserve Shiraz is sourced from the original vines planted in 1919 at the bottom of the hill at Coriole. Only 330 cases were made in 2016. The centurion vines produced an exceptionally deep and concentrated wine, savoury, with notes of dark chocolate and plum cake. This wine will be long lived but is so enjoyable today.
