Domaine de Bellene "Maison Dieu" Vieilles Vignes 2019
Variety: Pinot Noir
Nicolas Potel is the man behind Domaine de Bellene. “Nico” was a successful negociant in Burgundy but wanted to control the entire production process from vineyard to sales (where negociants buy grapes or bulk juice/wine for their brand). So, in 2006, he purchased vineyards and historical buildings in Beaune to establish Domaine de Bellene.
The vineyards are organically farmed (but not certified) and the winemaking is all about low intervention, using indigenous yeasts for fermentation. The use of gravity is preferred and reducing mechanical movements of the wine as much as possible.
The “Maison Dieu” vineyard is a 70+ year old, high density (10,000 vines per Ha) vineyard in the village of Pommard. It produces a perfectly balanced Bourgogne, with ripe cherry, bright red berries and beautifully textured tannins. This is one of the best value Bourgogne you can find.
