Guigal Saint-Joseph Blanc "Lieu-Dit" 2017
Region: Saint-Joseph - Northern Rhone
Varieties: 95% Marsanne , 5% Roussanne
Simply put, the Guigal family is an icon of the Northern Rhone. Etienne Guigal founded the family domain in 1946 in Côtes-Rotie. In 1961, his son Marcel joined him after Etienne suffered from total blindness.
Marcel, now with his son Philippe, owns 150Ha of the region’s most respected vineyards and produces the region’s highest rated wines (think of Côtes-Rotie La La’s).
Guigal’s Saint-Joseph “Lieu-Dit” Blanc comes from the actual vineyard that gives the Saint-Joseph appellation its original name. This vineyard’s vines are between 20 up to 75 years, planted on unbelievably steep slopes of gneiss and granite.
The “Lieu-Dit” Blanc is considered one of the most original and distinctive whites in the Rhone. A full-bodied wine made from 95% full concentrated Marsanne and matured in 50% new French oak. It is intense, textured with long lasting orange marmalade notes.
