S.C. Pannell "Old McDonald" Grenache 2018
Region: McLaren Vale
Variety: 100% Grenache
Stephen Pannell is one of the most influential and creative winemakers in Australia. He is a true Grenache lover which he has been making in McLaren Vale for over 20 years. Steve makes a whole range of wines from a variety of stunning McLaren Vale and Adelaide Hills vineyards. He’s wines are always a true reflection of their terroirs, all about fruit brightness and tannin textures.
In Steve’s words “Grenache grows as well in McLaren Vale as any of the more revered Grenache regions including France’s Rhone Valley, Priorat in Spain and Italy’s Sardinia”.
The grapes are sourced from the Old McDonald Vineyard in Blewitt Spring, the epicentre of Grenache in McLaren Vale. The wine is made from 76 year old vines, naturally fermented with 12% whole bunch and then aged in 5000L oak casks. A powerful and savoury wine, with intense spice and dark fruit notes, it has a beautiful tannin structure.
