Chatto Isle Pinot Noir 2018
Region: Huon Valley - Tasmania
Variety: Pinot Noir
Jim Chatto is one of the finest winemaker in Australia, in fact he was named Wine Gourmet Traveller Winemaker of the Year 2019, nice one for the CV.
Jim always had a passion for Tasmania, even during his time as Chief Winemaker for Mount Pleasant (Hunter Valley). He established his own vineyard in the Huon Valley, overlooking Glaziers Bay in 2007, planting various clones of Pinot Noirs over 1.5Ha.
Jim planted his vineyard at the very limits of viticultural possibility for Pinot Noir. It’s situated in a very cool part of the world, and planted at a very close 5,000 vines per hectare to achieve maximum flavour purity and concentration in the bunch.
Chatto 'Isle' soon developed a cult follow up amongst Pinot lovers. With only 2,400 bottles of the 'Isle' made, this wine sells out upon release.
Red and black cherries, dried leaves, toasty oak, it’s all there in abundance. “Burgundian”.
