Hickinbotham 'Trueman' Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
Region: McLaren Vale - Clarendon Vineyard
Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon
The first vines at the legendary Hickinbotham Vineyard were planted in 1971 by Alan David Hickinbotham. This 186ha property of rolling hillsides remained under Hickinbotham family ownership until it was purchased by the US’s Jackson family in 2012. The vineyard has been farmed according to organic and biodynamic practices since 2019. Until 2012, grapes from the 85-hectares of vines were only ever sold to an esteemed list of winemakers and credited to flagship wines like Penfolds Grange and Eileen Hardy Shiraz, Clarendon Hills. Made by the team of Napa Valley's Chris Carpenter and Yangarra's Peter Fraser, under the Jackson Family Farms umbrella, this is one of the finest Cabernet in McLaren Vale.
‘Trueman’ certainly expresses its McLaren Vale origins from its 1971 old vines, but you can also pick up some clear Napa Valley cues in style. Aged in 75% new French oak, it’s full off ripe blackberry and mocha, supported by textured tannins.
